David Starfire and Chang Mai Wisdom Teeth

David Starfire – Composer Multi instrumentalist Performer and DJ

I was Chang Mai, Thailand when my wisdom teeth started to cause a problem with my bite. We had been in Bangkok, and arrived in Chang Mai via trail. I had been sick on the train, and was listening to music I had been given in Hawaii by an avid music collector and archivist who graciously hosted my friend during school and me when I flew in near his graduation before a trip to Kalalau on the island of Kauai. Headphones on the train, Bonobo, Desert Dwellers, Tycho, Thievery Corperation, Morcheeba, Emancipation, Lemon Jelly, The Polish Ambassador, Randon Rab, Blackwell, Portico Quartet, Makana, Jon Hopkins, and Niel Young.

We met two American women in Chang Mai at the hostel and went with them to stay at an Earthship in Pai. Before doing so I was escorted to the dentist by one of the women who we were traveling with. The best dentist I’ve ever been to, Dental4U, 382, 384 Tha Phae Road. The young doctor and several female assistants removed all four of my wisdom teeth, no sedation, no complications for about 15,148.10 Baht about 400.00 USD if im remembeing correctly.

I stopped eating meat as requested while they sockets healed. While at the earthship my friend and the two women we were traveling with went back to Chang Mai for a performance by David Starfire. I stayed behind and had a still life photo session and took several self portraits before cuddling with a cat that had become found of me. As a group we named the cat Old Crooktail as it had a crooked tip of it’s tail.

I missed the show but became aware of his work. Traveling in Thailand at the same time as he, the tourist and expat scene, his music holds much information about South East Asia and DJ Culture. Sharing it with people provides them a glimpse into that busy and beautiful world within the ancient backdrop of Thailand.

Shortly after his show my friend and I went to Tam Wua Forest Monastery where I continued to not eat meet as they served vegan food for everyone. Having my wisdom teeth pulled changed they way I was eating and still I am of this trajectory eating mostly legumes, fruits and vegetables.

Tam Wua is a place where you can stay for free as long as you abide by monestary rules.

If I had not gotten my teeth pulled I would have been at the show and probably would have met David, but self care took the reigns while traveling and I share his music here in the i_nonself music archive because it makes me happy but also because in another life, another way, another dimension I might be just like him. Same Same but different as they say in Thailand. Props to David Starfire.
